Meet Allyson Ruiz, APRN
I’ve always wanted to work with and help people in the medical field, but was unsure of what path to take. It wasn’t until I shadowed a nurse practitioner one summer before my junior year in college that I discovered my interest in nursing. I enjoyed the fact that nurse practitioners were not only clinicians, but also educators who could spend time teaching patients about their health.
I was very deliberate in my education, getting my bachelor’s degree in nursing and working for several years on the post-operative unit at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. After being accepted into graduate school, I continued to work as a nurse in the operating room while finishing my doctorate degree. Two months after graduation, I was offered a position at the High Risk Pregnancy Center.
I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to do to help build our diabetes counseling program. The number of patients that we see has grown over the last few years. Today we help over 250 new patients every four months. That number will likely continue to grow, as will our resources to support the demand for better care, both in our practice and in the community.
I enjoy helping patients understand more about their diabetes and how it affects not only their health, but the health of their babies. As my patient, I want you to feel I’m your healthcare partner. I want to address your concerns and frustrations so I can help you make positive health changes. When you have a question or concern, we are always an email or phone call away.
Allyson Ruiz hopes to improve diabetes awareness in the Las Vegas community. She is using her spare time to develop her golf game as a new hobby, and loves to travel with her husband whenever she has the opportunity.
