Meet Amara Lauritzen, CGC

I was interested in a medical career where I could interact with the patient more frequently. I shadowed genetic counselors at Oregon Health and Sciences University and really enjoyed my time with them. It was then that I realized I could have an impact on patient care, in both clinical and counseling roles.

“At the High Risk Pregnancy Center, I am very proud of the patient specific care and treatment we provide. We have a very cohesive team of staff and doctors. This is a true team environment where everyone is very supportive. Our patient-first care is about listening and compassion.

“I approach each patient as a unique individual with a story, without any judgement. I feel very strongly about being a person first, and a genetic counselor second. I want patients to feel completely comfortable speaking with me about their fears and concerns. It is important to me that they have every opportunity to ask questions in an environment that encourages open and honest communication.”
